A Trowbridge Town team was originally formed in 1880,[2] and after success in the Western League, in 1958 they won promotion to the Southern League.[3] In 1981, Trowbridge won promotion to the Football Conference (then known as the Alliance Premier League) where they played for three seasons before being relegated back to the Southern League where they remained until folding in 1998.[3]
A new team was quickly formed and after a spell playing in the Wiltshire League in 2004, they joined the Hellenic Football League.[3] The current side lists the honours of the old side on its website.[4]
They have reached the First Round Proper of the FA Cup 4 times in their history, most recently during the 1963-64 season when they lost 6-1 to Coventry City. They have never advanced past the 1st round of the FA Trophy in numerous attempts, although in 1990-91 they reached the semi finals of the FA Vase.[3]
